History

Ballet Theatre Company was founded in West Hartford in 1999. Tracy Dorman is Executive Director and the guiding force behind the continuation and sustainability of the Company. The company presents an annual spring season at the Hoffman Auditorium, Carol Autorino Center for the Arts and Humanities at Saint Joseph College in West Hartford. This program has become a showcase for new, exciting works by regional choreographers. In December 2002, Ballet Theatre Company accepted the invitation of Saint Joseph College to stage its first Nutcracker at the Hoffman Auditorium. This production has become an annual tradition for Ballet Theatre Company, the Hoffman Auditorium, and the Greater Hartford community. The company also performs in other venues such as the Ted Hershey Dance Marathon in Hartford, and the 5x5 dance concert at Saint Joseph College. Ballet Theatre Company provides the community with high-quality professional dance and provides its dancers with a professional performing experience that serves as a critical bridge to major professional companies for those dancers hoping to make dance their full-time careers. In September 2005, Ballet Theatre Company took up residence in its newly renovated  studio at 20 Jefferson Avenue in West Hartford. Here, the dancers enjoy a spacious, bright dance studio with a special sprung floor suitable for rehearsals and classes; dressing areas; storage for costumes and props; kitchen facilities; office space for staff; and a comfortable reception area. The Company’s new dance school, Ballet Theatre Academy, has quickly established itself as a center for excellence within the Greater Hartford cultural community.
