Ballet Theatre Academy Faculty

Faculty for the fall 2008 term includes:

 

Kate Sulikowski, earned her degree in dance from the University of Massachusetts. She studied at the Alvin Ailey School and Broadway Dance Center in NY. She performed professionally with the Pioneer Valley Ballet and has taught in NY, NJ and CT.  She is certified by American Ballet Theatre as a teacher of primary through level 3 curriculum of the ABT National Standardized Curriculum.  

Ruth Lewis, former principal ballerina with the American Repertory Ballet in Princeton, NJ. She is a graduate of the Walnut Hill School for the Performing Arts and also danced with the Hartford Ballet and Berkshire Ballet.  Ruth was a rehearsal mistress for the National Ballet of Bermuda. She has choreographed contemporary ballet works for Ballet Theatre Company.  

Denise Leetch-Moore, former principal dancer with the Hartford Ballet under the direction of Kirk Peterson. Denise was danced with the Nashville Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet, Chautauqua Festival Company and Septime Webre Dance. Denise has taught ballet and on-ice choreography for the International Skating Center of Connecticut in Simsbury, working with beginning skaters as well as World and Olympic competitors and currently teaches in the Bachelor of Fine Arts programs for the University of Hartford musical theater and dance majors. 

Sara Rifkin, earned her BA in dance from Indiana University. She has performed professionally with the San Diego Ballet Classical, Eugene Ballet, David Taylor Dance and Ballet Met in Columbus, Ohio. Ms Rifkin is currently on a leave of absence. 

Tracy Dorman, trained with Marguerite de Anguera, Margarita Froman and David Howard in New York City. She performed with the Hartford Civic Ballet, Connecticut Opera Ballet and Connecticut Valley Regional Ballet. She choreographed for the Manchester Ballet as well as Ballet Theatre Company. 

Roman Baca, earned his BA in dance from the University of New Mexico and continued his studies at the Nutmeg Conservatory of the Arts. He performed with the New Mexico Ballet and Nutmeg Ballet.  He has served as instructor and coach at the Nutmeg Conservatory for the Arts and the Connecticut Dance Theatre. He is the artistic director of his New York based ensemble, Exit 12 Dance Company. 

Robert Smith, trained at Ballet Theatre Company, Nutmeg Conservatory for the Arts and Studio of Dance, and School of Hartford Ballet.  He has been a dancer with Ballet Theatre Company since 2000. He has taught ballet and partnering at the Connecticut Dance Theatre.  

Amy Merli, was a pedagogy/performance major at the Hartford Conservatory. She continued her studies at the Limon Professional Studies Program, Paul Taylor Summer Intensive, Full Force Summer Intensive and Boulder Jazz Summer Workshop. Professionally she has performed with the Full Force Dance Theater, Pioneer Valley Ballet and Limon PSP showing.
