Ballet Theatre Academy (BTA), offers a full classical ballet training program supplemented with creative movement,  jazz, modern, hip-hop, Pilates and Yoga. Classes are offered for those age three to adult.

BTA's ballet curriculum includes:

  • CREATIVE MOVEMENT: An introduction to basic dance movement, musicality an creative styles.

  • PRIMARY BALLET:   Recommended for ages 5 and up. An introduction to basic ballet technique with an emphasis on posture, spatial awareness and musicality. This level is designed to cover 3 years of training.

  • LEVEL 1: Recommended for ages 8 and up. Ballet Theory is introduced with emphasis on body position and strength building. Barre work is introduced and center work focuses on basic steps and movement across the floor.

  • LEVEL 2: Recommended for ages 9 and up. Builds on level 1 adding in use of the head, more complex barre exercises and floor exercises. Girls work on strengthening exercises in preparation for future pointe work.

  • LEVEL 3: Recommended for ages 10 and up. Builds on level 1 and 2 with introduction of increasing difficult steps and movement.  Pointe work is introduces for girls age 11 and older at the recommendation of the teacher.

  • LEVEL 4: Recommended for ages 12 and up. This is an advanced level class with opportunity for membership into Ballet Theatre Company.

  • Modern, Jazz and HipHop, are also offered.  These can be taken as a supplement to a dancer’s curriculum or individually.

New this fall

BTA will offer a special combination of classes taught by Roman Baca for students in Level III.  These classes combine classical technique and prepare these students for performance opportunities.  These classes are comprised of:

 Level III Ballet Technique class, the foundational class
  • This is a classical ballet class focusing on placement, technique, vocabulary, and details.  Classwork will be supplemented with occasional written assignments.  Students will benefit from the discipline, focus, attention to detail.  This class will prepare students for more advanced classes and pointe work.  (Required textbook: Technical Manual and Dictionary of Classical Ballet, Dover books on dance, by Gail Grant).

Monday Level III Ballet, (pre-requisite is Level II Ballet Technique Class)
  • A classical ballet class focusing on physicality and movement. This class will build on the Friday technique class with more dancing and less details.  Class will prepare students for the Repertoire class.

Monday Repertoire Class, (pre-requisite is Monday Level III Ballet Class)
  • This class will review classical ballet repertoire for the younger dancer.  Variations from Sleeping Beauty, Raymonda, Bayadere and Coppelia will be taught with attention to the students level and ability.  The class will also review basics of the theater, stage and preparations necessary for ballet performance.

New Adult Dancing Opportunities
In the mornings, for adults looking for exercise classes, we will be offering a Yoga class on Monday and Pilates class on Thursday as well as our Adult Ballet on Friday mornings.


New to the faculty
PopKorn, an outstanding hip-hop artist who has performed at the Apollo Theatre and in Los Angeles.  PopKorn will be offering a Hip-hop class for teens and adults on Monday evenings.
