Ballet Theatre Company announces Spring Spectacular!

Featuring a Return Engagement of Carlos Molina and Erica Cornejo of the Boston Ballet.

Grotto Pas de Deux from Le Corsaire to be performed by guest artists.

Ballet Theatre Company has received a funding from the Edward C. and Ann T. Roberts Foundation, the Dance Initiative of the Greater Hartford Arts Council and the J. Walton Bissell Foundation to support “Spring Spectacular”, its eleventh annual spring season. Featured will be the return engagement of Boston Ballet Principal Dancers, Carlos Molina and Erica Cornejo as well as the Exit 12 Dance Company of New York City under the direction of Roman Baca. Performances will take place May 31, 2009 at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm at the Hoffman Auditorium, Carol Autorino Center for the Arts and Humanities at Saint Joseph College in West Hartford.

Carlos Molina, a native of Columbia, was a principal dancer for the Hartford Ballet under Kirk Peterson and delighted Hartford audiences with his performances in Giselle, Sleeping Beauty, Nutcracker and many others.  He later joined American Ballet Theatre in New York. He has been  a principal dancer with the Boston Ballet since 2004.

Erica Cornejo, trained in Buenos Aires and at the age of fourteen, won the gold medal in the International Ballet Competition in Argentina. She joined American Ballet Theatre in 2002 and won rave reviews for her portrayal of the step-sister in ABT’s production of Cinderella. She has performed as a guest artist all over the world and has been a principal dancer with Boston Ballet since 2005.

Mr Molina and Ms Cornejo will be performing a pas de deux from the grotto scene in Act II of the ballet “Le Corsaire”. It is choreographed by Mr Molina, after the work of Petipa. On Saturday, May 30th, at 4:00 pm, Mr Molina will teach a master class at the Ballet Theatre Company studio, 20 Jefferson Ave., West Hartford, CT. Fee for attending the class is $25 and will be an intermediate/advanced level class.

Ballet Theatre Company and Exit 12 dancers will be performing the revival of the romantic ballet “Melodies” choreographed by Marguerite de Anguera for the CT Valley Regional Ballet in the 1970’s and reconstructed by Ballet Theatre Company director, Tracy Dorman. Also on the program are new works by Ruth Vesenka Lewis and Elyse Cote which feature a collaboration between the Ballet Theatre Company dancers and CONNetic Dance dancers under the direction of Carolyn Paine and Elyse Cote, both former Ballet Theatre Company dancers. Ballet Theatre Academy faculty member, Amy Merli will be featured in the new work by Ms. Lewis.
